Foodie Friday: Introducing the French Lick Resort Bourbon Tour

As if you needed another excuse to indulge in a little bourbon during your getaway … here you go. (You’re welcome.)

The self-guided French Lick Resort Bourbon Tour is our newest way of celebrating bourbon in all its smooth forms, from the rocks glass to the dinner plate. Here’s how it works:

Download and print a Bourbon Tour map before you come, or ask for one at the concierge desk or front desk at French Lick or West Baden Springs Hotels. The map directs you to six different resort restaurants, each with a bourbon-based cocktail or food item you can purchase there.

For each bourbon creation you order, your map gets a bourbon barrel stamp for that location, and when you collect four, you can turn in your map at the West Baden Springs Hotel front desk for a complimentary gift. You obviously must be 21 to order the cocktails and collect the prize, but everyone can be along for the ride on this tour. All the participating venues are open to guests under age 21, and three of the six featured items are food items that anyone can order.

Food Items

Derby pancakes with bourbon caramel sauce — A take on Derby pie, these decadent chocolate chip pancakes at CafĂ© Sinclair’s are an indulgent way to start the day. (You’re on vacation … live a little, right?) Loaded with whipped cream, candied walnuts and wedges of crisp chocolate wafer, this mountain of pancake perfection could easily feed two. And it’s perfect for the kids to enjoy, if you’re willing to let them splurge.

Bourbon Glazed Bread Pudding — Another sweet creation awaits at Hagen’s Club House Restaurant, with their warm bread pudding with sweet bourbon glaze and vanilla bean ice cream. And a few Hagen’s reminders: they are open for lunch daily and dinner Friday and Saturday by reservation only, and our resort shuttle bus can always give you a lift up to the restaurant at The Donald Ross Course.

Fried Green Tomato Stack with Bourbon Bacon Jam
— All you fried green tomato fans will love our take that’s new to the lineup of starters at Sinclair’s Restaurant (open Fridays and Saturday by reservation only). The bourbon bacon jam boldly stands out, but still works in harmony with the cornmeal-dusted tomatoes, pimento cheese, avocado, pickled red onions and aged balsamic.

Cocktails

French Lick Manhattan — You didn’t think we’d leave off our award-winning signature cocktail, did you?

Our French Lick mixologist, Tomi Parker, helped select the flavor profile for the French Lick Select Woodford Reserve that provides this Manhattan with a local flair. Esquire Magazine gave Tomi’s Manhattan top honors for Indiana in their Woodford Reserve Competition while she was ranked in the top three nationwide. Get the cocktail at 1875: The Steakhouse, where you can also find 36 different brands of bourbon behind the bar.

“Under the Big Top” — If aged bourbon is your thing, this is your drink. Old Forester 1870, Aperol and Maraschino liqueur join forces in this special cocktail that pays home to West Baden’s circus history. Sip on “Under the Big Top” under the dome at Ballard’s in the Atrium or Ballard’s Bar, at West Baden Springs Hotel.

Shooter 46 Cocktail — Even if you’re not a hardcore bourbon fan, this refreshing cocktail at Power Plant Bar & Grill can please anyone’s palate. French Lick Maker’s Mark 46 Private Select, grapefruit juice and fresh lemon juice.

Bonus bourbon points — Pick up a bottle of our Woodford Reserve Personal Select or Maker's Mark 46 Private Select — signature spirits made uniquely for French Lick Resort. Buy them as a pair or by the bottle at Ballard's Bar at West Baden Springs Hotel, or through in-room dining.
