Planning a Golf Trip? 8 Things to Know to Get Started

Maybe the yearly golf trip got placed on hold in 2020. Or maybe your group is searching for an answer to that annual question: Where we headed for this year’s golf trip?

Golf season is right on the doorstep here at French Lick Resort — our Donald Ross Course is slated to open March 12, while opening day at The Pete Dye Course is April 2 — and everything you’re looking for in an epic 2021 golf outing is right here. Here’s 8 things to know as you get started:

1. Did you know this is the only property worldwide with a Pete Dye and Donald Ross course at the same property? And did you know early spring provides the best bang for the buck if you want to experience both? Get the best deal with the Early Bird Package and play both of French Lick’s championship courses — a spectacular opportunity to play layouts by Hall of Fame course designers together in the same trip. It’s available for Sunday and Monday overnight stays between April 4 and May 24.

2. If maxing out on four unique and different golf experiences is your group’s mission, you’re in luck. The Southern Indiana Golf Sampler gets you access to the Dye and Ross courses, plus a round at the 9-hole Valley Links Course and 18 more holes at Sultan’s Run Golf Club in nearby Jasper. With pre-built stay-and-play packages, you can hone in on exactly what you want, without the hassle of a lot of planning.

3. We realize that a lot of golf groups have the goal of AMGAP. As much golf as possible. So go ahead, play all you want. Same-day replays are free at The Pete Dye Course and $50 at The Donald Ross Course (based on availability).

4. You’re here on vacation, so it’s time to indulge a little. We’ve always got you covered when you need a lift. Shuttle service is always complimentary between the resort hotels and golf courses — so go ahead and crack open a few drinks on the course, or order a round after your round. (Resort Wi-Fi and parking: also free throughout your stay.)

5. Play time here extends well beyond the greens. Hit up French Lick Casino for 24/7 gaming with live-dealer table games, slots and sportsbook. With big sporting events like golf majors and college basketball back on the 2021 calendar, the sportsbook might become your second home during your stay. Post up in the sports viewing area and follow every big game on our wall of big screens.

6. Where to stay? You’ve got three options, but golf groups might feel most at home in the Valley Tower. With connecting room access and configuration options (one, two or three bedroom combinations), the rooms can double as a nice hangout spot. Especially when you’ve got the Valley Sports Bar in the lobby, and the casino just a few more steps away.

7. Even if golf is your #1 priority, there’s a few other things around that you may want to carve out some time for. Take aim on the resort’s sporting clays range and do a 50-target or 100-target shoot — you can provide your own guns and ammo, or buy/rent them on site. And if you’re in French Lick, you gotta pay homage to Larry Bird, right? Take a swing past Larry’s boyhood home (Google Maps can show the way) or grab a beer and burger downtown at 33 Brick Street, where you can actually try on Larry’s warm-up jacket from the Olympics.

8.
Coming here with a big crew? Don’t sweat all the planning. Groups of 8 or more can work with our PGA Professional, Alex Whiteman, to get set up with everything — tee times, rooms, dinner at the steakhouse, whatever you have in mind. It’s one-stop-shop planning, and you can shoot an email to awhiteman@frenchlick.com to get the ball rolling on your trip.
