It's Not Too Late: 7 Reasons to Plan a Quick Post-Holiday Escape

Ahhhh, it’s the most wonderful time of the year.

At least until December 26, when the Christmas glow is in the rear view mirror.

This year, you don’t have to put up with the post-holiday blues. Or spend that week between Christmas and New Year’s in your pajamas, stuck in that disorienting state of “what day is it today?” Here’s 7 reasons you can actually finish 2020 on a high note with a post-holiday escape.

We’re open and ready: Maybe your usual holiday go-to escape isn’t open this year, or getaway options in general are limited where you are. If you're getting a little itchy with cabin fever, French Lick and West Baden are a safe getaway option with plenty to do. And we’re closer than you think: 1+ hour from Louisville; 2 hours from Indy; 3 hours or less from Cincinnati, Nashville and St. Louis; and about 5 hours from Indiana’s state line with Chicago and Michigan.

Impromptu getaway? Go for it: Normally, it’s tough to get reservations here at the resort the week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve unless you plan weeks or even months ahead. This year, it’s much easier to plan a quick trip on a whim. Whether it’s just a hotel room for one night, or a special Christmas or New Year’s package, call (888) 936-9360 and you can whip up a last-minute getaway in a matter of a couple minutes.

Still socially distant: Our hotels, casino and other venues are still open at about 50 percent capacity, so at times, it might almost feel like you have the whole place to yourself. At West Baden Springs Hotel, have dinner at Ballard’s in the Atrium, then grab an after-meal cocktail — maybe a Sugar Cookie Martini or chocolatey Peppermint Patty. Then find a seat beneath the expanse of the dome, and relish some live music and holiday sights.

Enjoy a quieter New Year’s Eve: December 31 will definitely look a little different this year. But we’re making it a different kind of special. More like New Year’s Date Night. Our overnight New Year’s packages at French Lick and West Baden Springs Hotels both feature dinner for two with special holiday menus at 1875: The Steakhouse and Sinclair’s Restaurant. (On New Year’s Eve, Sinclair’s and 1875 will be open exclusively to guests on the New Year’s Eve package.) And we’ll still have New Year’s Day brunch, complete with some holiday specialties, in the Grand Colonnade Restaurant at French Lick Springs Hotel.

For all you introverts, this is actually your New Year’s dream come true: a low-key night out, yet still a fun and fancy way to ring in 2021.

It’s never too late to celebrate Christmas:
Sinclair’s Restaurant is serving its sumptuous three-course Christmas dinner starting Christmas Eve and running every night through December 30th. Once you’re done with traditional Christmas at home, take a few days and decompress here for Christmas Part II.

Speaking of hanging on to the holiday magic, our festive holiday decorations all across the resort stay up until January 10.

The outdoors are always open: Several outdoor resort amenities are still open — including the stables, sporting clays, FootGolf and Valley Links Golf Course. And the week-after-Christmas forecast doesn’t look too shabby with high temperatures 40 and above. Get outside and embrace a little winter chill.

New Year’s bowls at the sportsbook: Who you got for college football’s high-profile bowl games? You can make your picks for NCAA bowl games at our sportsbook kiosks, and watch them all unfold in the sportsbook lounge. Get a seat early. And fingers crossed for Indiana and Notre Dame, too.
