Foodie Friday: Local Restaurant Guide

With regional flavors whichever direction you turn in the French Lick and West Baden area, this Foodie Friday features restaurants that are must-visits when you're visiting the area!

Let's start with Main Street (or locally known as "Brick Street") in French Lick:

33 Brick Street
With their legendary atmosphere showcasing sports memorabilia, local athletic gear and local sports star Larry Bird, 33 Brick Street opened in the spring of 2008, restoring an old storefront into a restaurant and pub. Their name pays homage to the cobbled street out front and the jersey number of Larry Bird, who grew up in French Lick. On display are signed jerseys by Bird, Emmitt Smith, Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Lou Brock, Magic Johnson, Joe Montana, Walt Frazier and many more.

Their Southwest Burger is one of their top sellers: stacked high with onion rings, barbecue sauce, half-pound beef patty, smoked bacon and cheddar cheese. This burger is so popular and delicious that it is nominated in Visit Indiana's "Best Specialty Burger in Indiana!" Their tenderloin sandwich is also on Indiana Foodways Alliance's Tenderloin Trail.
Along with Bird's NBA championship trophies, MVP trophies and his Naismith Award, there is also a collection of photographs from Bird's private album from the Olympics, and his championship rings are sometimes displayed.
The bar portion of 33 Brick Street has a rotating beer selection that includes Salt Creek Cream Ale (Bedford, IN), Basket Case (Jasper, IN), Sun King Wee Mac (Indianapolis) and classic favorites like Stella, Yuengling and Goose Island.
The historic Larry Bird Boulevard sign completes their newly renovated patio, complete with a fire pit and plenty of seating to take your experience outside.

German Cafe
A taste of authentic Germany in historic French Lick! With their impressive menu of German food, daily specials and old-time and homey decor, the German Cafe is a complete dining experience. Featured here is their Haehnchen Schnitzel with Blaukraut (red cabbage). Their experienced staff is always happy to answer questions about their authentic menu items.

Their unique table settings are welcoming for guests, with larger settings that can seat 15+ in other rooms off the main dining room floor.

Located along Main Street, Just off the Brick Pizza brings local flair. Enjoy the whimsical decor inside or head outside on the patio and enjoy pizza, subs or one of their new pasta dishes alfresco!

Local ice cream and coffee ... what's not to love? Located within Bear Hollow's storefront and next to the French Lick West Baden Museum, French Licks offers locally made Libby's Ice Cream and locally roasted coffee from JavAroma Roasters.
Pictured here is their Affogato (an Italian dessert with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and fresh espresso).

Just across the street, Jack Carnes Way will lead you to the following local restaurants:

Fresh made sushi, seafood, steaks, burgers and pasta are just some of the items on the menu at Ohana, located right across the street from French Lick Springs Hotel. Outdoor seating is available, and an impressive beer and drink selection will give you all the Hawaiian vibes.

Whether you try their Chicago deep dish, traditional crust, crispy thin or go for a sandwich, pasta or one of their delectable loaded baked potatoes, you will leave full and satisfied! Their signature pie (pictured) is the "Skyline": pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers and onions. On weekdays, stop in for their lunch buffet.
