Foodie Friday: The Grand Colonnade Restaurant

You've heard it before, breakfast is the most important meal of the day (but especially when there's an entire buffet of delicious selections of sweet and savory options). This edition of Foodie Friday explores French Lick Springs Hotel's The Grand Colonnade Restaurant, which happens to be in the former ballroom where Franklin D. Roosevelt rounded up support for his party’s presidential nomination at the 1931 Democratic Governors’ Conference held at French Lick Springs Hotel. Roosevelt received his official nomination one year later in Chicago. Breakfast with a side of history? Let's dig in!
The Grand Colonnade is adorned with incredible chandeliers and seating is dispersed nicely among the large, open restaurant. Resort guests 5-years-and-under dine for free and resort guestes ages 6-12 dine at half price with an adult. As well as daily breakfast from 7am-11am, they also serve Sunday Brunch from 11am-2pm.
Brunch options vary every Sunday, but you can expect to see the line-up of cinnamon rolls, yogurt with a variety of toppings, Parmesan-crusted tomatoes and cheese danishes regularly.

Feeling a traditional breakfast? The Grand Colonnade has a plethora of options including scrambled eggs, bacon, breakfast sausage, ham, biscuits and gravy and waffles (with all the fixings)!
You can see the grand backdrop to this restaurant is picturesque and just a quick walk from the hotel lobby.
Feeling a healthier approach to your morning? Fruit, yogurt and their newest addition of smoothies are all available. Smoothies include the Berry-Go-Round, French Lick-olada, The Greenberry and The Banana-Cantaberry. Smoothies are served in small glasses so you are more than welcome to try more than one. There is no extra charge for smoothies as they are included in the price for the buffet, so try one with your next visit!
The light pink smoothie on the left is the Berry-Go-Round and The Greenberrry is on the right.
Here's a breakdown on all 4 smoothie offerings:
Berry-Go-Round: Unsweetened apple juice, unsweetened almond milk, fresh blueberries, fresh strawberries, fresh raspberries and ice cubes (70 calories)
French Lick-olada: Fresh pineapple, pineapple juice, coconut milk and ice cubes (120 calories)
The Greenberry: Unsweetened almond milk, fresh baby spinach, fresh blueberries and strawberries (110 calories)
The Banana-Cantaberry: Blend of strawberries, blueberries, banana and cantaloupe with Greek yogurt and orange juice (318 calories)
Fruit carving is regularly showcased at The Grand Colonnade Restaurant to add finesse to the displays. This isn't your average breakfast buffet!

Perhaps one of the most popular offerings is the Omelet Station. Choose what you'd like in your omelet and it is chef-crafted before your eyes, finishing from beginning to end in about 4 minutes.
Their waffle station is similar, choose from 1-4 mini waffles and adorn yours with blueberries, almonds, pecans, whipped cream, strawberry sauce, syrup, chocolate chips or all of the above! Another sweet option are a variety of muffins (chocolate, blueberry and banana walnut).
What is it about waffles that are just so perfect? The best thing about their miniature size at The Grand Colonnade Restaurant is that you can customize each one differently to your own unique liking!
